I'm back home from my trip. I can now say I experienced the Kentucky Derby live. What an event!!! Let's do it all again next year!
What a thrill!! The race was great. It was the biggest crowd ever and 20-1 shot Animal Kingdom wins the Derby. I just had the best day. Walked outside the gates of Churchill Downs then ate and worked in the press room and finally found a spot right at the finish line to watch and record the race. Not a bad way to spend the day.
The race is almost here and the place is packed. The weather is holding too. The press room is eerily quiet. quiet anticipation I guess. I working to find a good spot to watch the race.
I've decided not to go to the backstretch today to rest up for the madness later. I'll do a few radio updates this morning then back to the track for the Kentucky Derby. This is what it's all about!
I was on the backstretch this morning. Several of the Derby horses worked out including favorite Dialed In. The weather is playing tricks on us but so far no rain. It's much warmer than the Breeder's Cup in Nov...that was cold!
The adventure is just beginning. I will be on the backstretch Friday morning for radio reports. I love the backstretch in the early morning. There's something magical about the horses running in the cool air under the lights.
I'm home from my trip and back to work. What a great adventure. So many wonderful memories! I hope you all enjoy the pictures and videos as much as I had putting it all together. - Ken
My Breeder's Cup trip is almost over. It's been an exciting three days for me. Zenyatta may not have made history but it was an honor to be a part of this great event. My plan was to document my trip through pictures, video and sound. I hope I did well. Thanks for checking it out. - Ken
After a morning on the backstretch I'm back at the hotel for a breather than it's back to the track for the races. - Ken
I'm out early to see the horses on the backstretch and more radio reports for WMBD - Ken
I liked Harve De Grace #11 finished third. Great price on Unrivaled Belle. Not a big crowd tonight at Churchill. The late races were nice under the lights but it was cold! -Ken
Marty... hope you kept your money off Life at Ten she was lifeless tonight...
ooops... not looking good for Life at Ten out on the track!
Kenny - What a start to the BC......Calvin was scolding Javier and I think Javier initiated first contact....UNREAL! I had the 6 and 12 in that race! So close...I hit the last pick 3....I'm hangin' in there. I love these .50 wagers..you can spread! I need Eclair De Lune, Midday or Red Desire to finish off my rolling pk 3!! I hope you are having a blast. I will carry your luggage next year! Soak it in my friend and enjoy! Watch out for Life at Ten in the Ladies Classic!
The 2010 Breeders Cup is underway with the Marathon in the books and a jockey's fight after the race. Calvin Borel reportedly threw punches! - Ken.
Kenny!! Enjoy the moment...soak it all in!! I took a vacation day and have been following all the works....what a festival it will be! Really get an appreciation to watch Zenyatta. I saw her run at Del Mar and got some great video of her...she's a true diva and a great story. Nobody deserves more to soak in the experience than you! Wish I was down there with ya buddy!! Godspeed!
Marty
Im up early and enjoying an in room coffemaker cup of brew before heading out to the media room for breakfast then onto the track for my reports this morning with "Greg and Dan." I hope to have some new video posted from the track later this morning. The actual Breeder's Cup races starting around 4pm eastern. Today's feature is the BC Ladies Classic. -Ken
I made it to Louisville and I'm at the Galt House Hotel, which is the media center and where I am staying. I posted a few pics. (The horse and jockey statues are on the outside of the hotel). I have tickets for the Breeder's Cup welcoming party tonight with Toby Keith. Not quite my thing but I think I'll check it out. Friday it's an early day at the track.
Miss you. Kids and I love you.
Ken you did a great job on this site!!! Have a wonderful time and know we are so proud of you! Love ya, Sandy
Some packing and time with the family before I head to Louisville tomorrow. Thanks Bro for the kind words. Keep checking the site. Fun stuff on the way.
Love the new site Ken... will be keeping track of your reports online. Have a great trip and savor every moment of it to the fullest. Michael
The BC post postion draw was today! 175 horses are entered to run. Zenyatta drew PP 8 for the BC Classic. A full list of all the races, PP's and odds shoul be up soon at drf.com. I love the charts but wanted to wait until the post positions were out to really get busy handicapping the races. It's getting closer to go time.
Tomorrow is the BC post position draw. I could have attended this event but I cant leave until Thursday. Then we get the full field's with morning line odds. Ive been so busy planning my trip I havent looked closely at the actual races yet. I'll get cracking. Stay tuned!
11/1 - Its day one of my week long vacation and it's my wedding anniversary! A day with the family is planned. I'll be leaving for Louisville Thursday morning.
